The Instituto Butantan received, for the second consecutive year, the Friend of the Environment Prize 2014 in recognition of its work titled “Mercury residue management in establishment of the São Paulo Secretary of State for Health: the case of the Instituto Butantan”.
The award ceremony took place in the morning of September 17 at the Research and Education Institute of the Sírio Libanês Hospital, during the opening ceremony for VII Healthful Hospitals Seminar (Seminário Hospitais Saudáveis, SHS).
The Friend of the Environment Prize (Prêmio Amigo do Meio Ambiente, AMA Prize) is a national award for sustainable initiatives at health organizations promoted by the State of São Paulo Secretariat of Health in partnership with SHS sponsors, the São Paulo Medical Development Association, the Sírio Libanês Hospital and the non-governmental organization Health Without Damage (Saúde Sem Dano) and the Healthy Hospitals Project (Projeto Hospitais Saudáveis). It also receives the support of various universities and professional organizations, sectorial and scientific associations. Of the 60 contestants this year, 15 were chosen.
